Competence summarizes, in one word, hard work, discipline and mastering of your craft. Before you can plan to crossover or create something new, you must first dive deep, do your job, earn credibility, tame your boredom, learn discipline, build confidence and security, and impact the world around you.
During this season of building competence, you must learn from anyone, but be careful with who you trade energy with. Casual conversation is ok, however, avoid it with shallow people. Limit casual conversation to authentic people with whom you can slide into meaningful conversations with. Gravitate towards world citizens, people who have seen more than whats outside their front door, these people can offer a different perspective to your truth.
A couple of other keys in this stage of crossover are to always fight fairly, and to never fear the truth. While the truth can be scary to face sometimes, it is important to stay in touch with it and maintain a true spectrum of reality.
Last but definitely not least, stay disciplined. There are very few businesses which fail because of lack of creativity, it usually stems from a lack of discipline.
When getting ready to make that leap into self employment, it is important to first gather your strength. You can do this by picturing your biggest fear and worst case scenario, determine that it is an acceptable outside chance, and then move forward.
First and foremost, make decisions. When making decisions, make them based on your principles and who you are, not on implications. In a world that makes decisions for you, it is especially important to make decisions for yourself. This will ensure your path is customized to you. Staying in touch with the truth will help to guide you into the right decisions.
Define success and failure, and set goals towards your definition of success. Once you have defined success for yourself, it will be much easier to make clear choices that will guide you towards it.
Before you crossover and enter the creation stage, first ask 2 dozen friends about your unique ability. This process will help you to decide on which opportunity will be a slightly better fit for you to pursue.
Put down your unmet goals like a dear family dog. While letting go of unmet goals is painful, it is an important step towards putting energy into goals that will likely be met.
Be observant, notice patterns. Writing can be a very helpful tool, some write to tell a story, but most achieve clarity in the process of writing.
Finally, simplify and create. This can mean simplifying your lifestyle, your budget, your diet, your wardrobe, your accessories, etc. By simplifying our lives we open up space for new to overlay the old.
So when deciding to make the transition into your own business remember 3 things. 1) to master competence at your current position, you should leave the people you work with wondering how they will do it without you. 2) crossover, face your fears and define success. 3) create, simplify your life and create what you want to bring to your reality.
As I transition back into self employment, this talk was extremely helpful to my process, I hope it does the same for you.
