If you have had a month like mine, you are so ready for the long weekend!
Usually I don't give a thought to what the Labor Day Holiday is for, I'm just so thankful to have it off. But, when I sat down to write this post I realized I have no idea what Labor Day marks other than the age old question of whether or not we should wear white after it...
Now that that's answered, you may still be wondering what Labor Day REALLY celebrates:
Labor Day in the United States is a holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.
Now that it is cleared up that Labor Day is more than a fashion rule, lets talk about all the fun things to do around Atlanta this nice long weekend!
If you haven't been to it yet, you have got to check it out! It's a great event for all ages, and all interests. You will see everything from Storm Troopers, to Ninja Turtles, to Men in Black. People are so creative and some work all year on their costumes (or Ghost Busters station wagon) and they look like the real thing. Get there early and bring a chair. I recommend taking Marta (dress up if you want to fit in with everyone on the train), finding a shady spot and bringing snacks and drinks especially if you have kids with you. Enjoy!
Oh and here's one more reason to go to the parade...
This is the annual art festival that happens in the Marietta Square every year where artists display and sell their work, and there is food and activites for the family
The Chalk Spot – a street chalk art display for children in kindergarten through 12th grade is scheduled for Saturday, August 30 during the annual Art in the Park Festival in downtown Marietta. Participants will have the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind designs in 3-foot square spaces. The art will remain on display throughout the festival-weather permitting.
Tickets $10-$15 advance, $20 at the door. At the Buckhead Saloon, 3227 Roswell Rd, Atlanta, GA 30305
This tenth year annual charity event will feature premium whiskies plus craft & import beers. Live music from Convoy, Running with Desire, Southside of the Tracks & Bedhead. Acoustic music on the deck from Dave Roland from 3pm - 7pm. Event will also feature a charity whiskey tasting & raffle with gift certificates from various Atlanta restaurants. Portion of proceeds benefit the Path Foundation
Look, this is our third year at Dragon Con and we've learned a few things. One: Deodorant and sleep are mere suggestions. Two: Duck Dodgers only gets more awesome. Three: Nothing is too obscure to turn into a costume. And finally: People at Dragon Con have big hearts and love to have a good time. So come out to see the Atlanta Braves and support a great cause.
With tickets starting at just $8, you can afford to take the whole family. And if you don't have kids it's a great excuse to sit outside, drink beer, eat hotdogs, and help a good cause!
