Jen is a friend, writer, and all around stylish and wonderful lady! You will be seeing more of her over the next couple of months and believe me, she has a lot of style advice to give and you'll definitely want to hear more of it! Now, I'll let Jen take it from here.

Bypass the wardrobe blahs with a fresh perspective on your wardrobe

Hi, I’m guest blogger Jen. I love fashion and helping others discover their best style. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love dressing up or styling others. It has always been so enjoyable to me, even as a little girl. But what happens when you are going along, completely enamored with your own well-honed style, only to discover you’ve fallen into a style rut? Yes, the dreaded I have nothing to wear, there’s nothing in my closet I like, and everything makes me feel blah. It’s the style ruts. We can all relate. The style rut suddenly just pops out at the most inopportune times – like every morning before work or every Friday before a night out. But not to worry. Here are some of my easy tips to take your style from rut to right in less time (and money) than you think – by using what you already have (and these great tips overlap so you’ll have the look of a new wardrobe every time you go to your closet).

1. Get back to the classics.

Remember classics are classics for a reason. No one ever goes wrong with black and white pairings. Whether you grab a white button down with your favorite black crop pants or pick a white t-shirt and black blazer, it’s perfect for work, school, lunch or a night out.  The best part is you can accessorize endlessly with this well paired ensemble.

2. Belts and scarves.

Oh yeah. The two best accessories a girl can use to refresh their style. Add a belt over a cute dress or cardigan and accentuate your beautiful curves. Scarfs are super versatile because they take a T-shirt from basic to becoming instantly. Scarfs draw attention up to your face – the best part of your outfit, always.

3. Try dressing it down.

It’s warming up outside so why not take that more high end look to a wonderful day outfit with cute flats, Toms, or sneakers. Pair your Converse with an adorable skirt and take your ordinary look to an unexpectedly delightful style that is classic and fresh. It’s a great way to be comfortable and feminine in a modern way.

4. Denim.

You can always make this faithful style companion work harder for you. It’s all about what you are pairing with your favorite jeans. Try stepping away from whatever you’ve recently paired with them – look in your closet for a bright top and some contrasting heels. Heels are really the key with denim – it makes you feel immediately feminine and sexy. Take a pass on the flats at least once a week and enjoy the height of your hiney and the confidence in your step.

Frugal Friday: Fashion

I love a winter look with an unexpected color palette! While I love greys and blacks just as much as the next person, sometimes my eyes are tired of the muted colors all around me and crave color in the winter. Today's Frugal Friday inspiration photo is satisfying that craving. With a dusty pink coat, pale blues, and fun accessories, this outfit shakes things up from the day to day brown boots, leggings, and oversized sweaters. It's a little bit glam, a little bit casual, and a lot cute.

I found this inspiration photo from New York Magazine online and loved the fun use of spring colors and the mixing of so many different looks into one, cohesive outfit. Let's recreate this pretty look on a reasonable budget, shall we?

Recreating a high-end look becomes much easier when the main pieces are simple, and the accessories are funky and trendy. This way, you can find pieces that you wont wear as often at a cheaper price and not worry about splurging on a $500 faux fur handbag you will wear 4 times.

I chose all discount items for this Frugal Friday look, but as always, I recommend investing in the pieces that will stand the test of time like good quality jeans, a nice warm coat, and always, always wear shoes that are comfortable! Nothing looks quite so fashionable as someone hobbling like a newborn giraffe in heels that are causing extreme pain.

Below are the links to where you can find the pieces for this look for under $200!

Chambray Shirt, Target, $22.99 / Light Blue Jeggings, American Eagle, $39.95 / Bouclé Coat, H&M, $25 sale / BCBG Paris Jaze Metallic Pump, DSW, $59.95 / River Island Claudia Sunglasses, ASOS, $24.64
